Sewerage prices

Sewerage prices

Sewerage charges are based on the capital value of your property. The Valuer-General sets capital values annually for the following financial year.

The 2019-20 minimum charge is $80.80 per quarter.

Calculating your quarterly sewerage charge

Sewerage charges are worked out by applying a rate in the dollar to the value of your property. This means the number of cents charged per $1000 of property value.

To work out your sewerage charge, divide your property value by 1000. Then multiply that number by the rate that applies to you (see below for the rates). To calculate an annual charge, multiply by four.

If the result is lower than the minimum charge, then the minimum charge of $80.80 per quarter ($323.20 annually) will apply.

Sewerage charged based on property value

Sewerage charges are designed to recover the cost of delivering sewerage services – including the infrastructure and operations needed to collect, transport, treat, recycle and dispose of used water.

Charging based on property values is considered the most practical and equitable way of sharing the cost of providing this service across the community.

Disputing the valuation of your property

Property values are set by the Valuer-General. To enquire about valuations set by the Valuer-General or to make an objection to your property valuation, please contact the State Valuation Office:

To object to your property valuation, you must do so within 60 days of the date of your first bill for the new financial year. There are conditions regarding this timeframe – refer to the State Valuation Office for full details.

Charges for customers not connected to the water network

Customers with properties who are able to connect to a sewer main are billed a rating on abuttal charge. This is regardless of whether they use the service or not.

A rating on abuttal charge reflects availability of the service should the current or future owners choose to connect the property. To make this connection available, the sewerage network has been designed to accommodate connection to and sewerage flows from these properties.

The availability of sewerage services to a property, and surrounding properties, adds to the health of the areas serviced and contributes to the value of both vacant land and developed properties.
