Completed in 1921, the Baroota Reservoir was built to supply additional water to Port Pirie and other northern parts of the Beetaloo distribution system. The dam is on Baroota Creek to the north-east of Port Germein.
Although wet weather delayed construction of the reservoir for several months at a time, following completion of the work, there were actually several dry years. It wasn't until 1932 that Baroota held enough water for the spillway to overflow.
Capacity: 6.14 gigalitres (one gigalitre is one billion litres), that will fill about 3,000 Olympic swimming pools
Public access: No
We currently don't monitor this reservoir's volume.
