Mount Bold Reservoir

Mount Bold Reservoir

Mount Bold, the largest reservoir in South Australia, is about 40 km south of Adelaide and surrounded by more than 5,500 ha of land.

The reservoir is not directly connected to the water network. Water from Mount Bold is released as required to maintain an adequate level at the Clarendon Weir from where water is diverted to Happy Valley.

Capacity: 46.4 gigalitres (one gigalitre is one billion litres), which would fill more than 23,000 Olympic swimming pools

Public access: Yes, for details and opening hours visit reservoirs.sa.gov.au.

Mount Bold is closed to the public during ‘pre-release’ events – when the storage is at capacity and water is released to mitigate any flood and safety risks – as this water blocks the normal access route.
