What is the project?

In December 2017, we implemented a Smart Water Network in Adelaide CBD. We installed flow pressure and acoustic leakage sensors that provided near real-time information about what is occurring in the water network. This information helped us to detect and prioritise crews to fix faults, such as leaks, before they escalate and cause public disruption. ​

The Smart Water Network has since expanded across metro and regional South Australia, including smart wastewater technology installations, to improve the supply networks in each selected location.

What are the benefits?

The smart technology we have installed in the Adelaide CBD has enabled us to identify and proactively fix leaks before they impact customers. Our new insights into the network have seen us repair faults while the city sleeps and reduce water service interruptions and commuter delays.

The future of the Smart Water Network

Our smart water network is expanding. We are leading the way with the implementation of smart technology throughout South Australia. This technology is tailored to the specific needs of the selected locations to improve the water network within these areas and the experience for our customers.

Since the implementation of the Smart Water Network in Adelaide CBD, we've expanded our Smart Water Network into North Adelaide, Athelstone, Port Lincoln and Penneshaw. We've also rolled out our Smart Wastewater Network into Stonyfell and Gawler.

Smart infrastructure to date has included the installation of flow meters, pressure reducing valves, acoustic loggers, and H2S sensors.

Sometimes our crews need to temporarily interrupt the water supply to our customers and/or manage traffic while they are working.     We’re improving your services and undertaking maintenance work in Kingscote. Sometimes our crews need to temporarily interrupt the water supply to our customers and/or manage traffic while they are working. Temporary traffic management may remain in place until reinstatement of the impacted road is complete. We always aim to minimise inconvenience by restoring services as safely and quickly as we can.
